Light Steel Building |
Reinforced Concrete Building |
Construction period |
1~2 months in general |
8~12 months in general |
Costs |
The cost of small structures and commercial structures are basically similar to that of reinforced concrete building, while the cost of larger residential and commercial structures are lower than that of reinforced concrete building because of the clearspan properties of the system. |
The cost is just generally high. |
Comprehensive economic effects |
It has good comprehensive economic effects, because of shorter construction period and earlier use of buildings. |
Because of longer construction period, the productivity of an enterprise will be postponed for a long time, consequently, the market risk may increase and comprehensive economic effects may be lowered when the product is put into the market. |
Environment pollution and planning |
The steel component and accessories are manufactured in the factory and then transported to the site for the erection, assembly and installation. This can guarantee a clean and clear area on the site, no pollution arising later. If there are some minor design changes, it is easy to re-configure. |
The materials are generally delivered and stored at the site, so it is cumbersome. If the materials are to be dismantled and re-configured, they cannot be utilized again. |
Earthquake and Shockproof |
The light steel structure is a flexible one. It has good shockproof performance. |
It is a rigid structure. To establish shockproof performance, some technical measures have to be applied. |
Foundation |
Because the dead weight of a pre-engineered steel framed structure is low, the permanent load is only 25~35Kg/m2, the fixed load is light, and its structural integrity is good. Even in the case of weak foundation, there is no need for piling in general. A shallow foundation is permitted. |
Because its dead weight is large, its permanent load is heavy, and it has weak structural integrity against deformation caused by disturbances. It needs piling in general. A deep foundation is required. |
